    Medshield Hospital Networks Guide 2026

Medshield Medical Scheme operates a two-tier hospital network system for its 2026 plans. Understanding which network your plan uses is essential to avoid unexpected co-payments when you need hospital care.

Prime Network is available on mid-tier plans including MediSaver, MediPlusPrime, and MediValuePrime. It provides access to a broad range of private hospitals including most Netcare, Life Healthcare, and Mediclinic facilities across South Africa.

Compact Network is used by more affordable plans like MediPlusCompact, MediCore, MediValueCompact, MediPhila, and MediCurve. It has a smaller hospital list but comes with lower monthly premiums. Using a non-Compact network hospital incurs a co-payment.

Open Access plans such as PremiumPlus and MediBonus have no hospital network restrictions — you can use any private hospital without co-payments.

All Medshield plans cover genuine medical emergencies at any hospital under Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs). Always confirm your hospital's network status before planned admissions.
